Dr. Huntley is Director of the Simons Centre for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Research at the Liu Institute for Global Issues, UBC. Dr. Huntley was previously an Associate Professor at the Hiroshima Peace Institute in Hiroshima, Japan, and Director of the Global Peace and Security Program at the Nautilus Institute for Security and Sustainable Development. He has held Visiting Assistant Professor appointments at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Whitman College, and Research Fellow appointments at the Institute of East Asian Studies and Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. His areas of expertise include international security, nuclear non-proliferation and arms control, political relations in the Asia-Pacific region, and political theory. He has published work addressing issues including nuclear weapons developments in East and South Asia, U.S. missile defence ambitions and deterrence policies, the relationship of democracy and peace, and philosophies of science. He is a frequently requested speaker on current non-proliferation issues and appears regularly in the media including CBC, CTV, and regional television, radio, and print outlets. He has taught a range of courses in several political science fields; at UBC he has taught security studies courses, works directly with a number of graduate students, and has participated in the Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research and Imagine UBC programs.
